Cautions for the Use of CO₂ Laser Tubes in Summer

T.06-09,2022

With the increasing of temperature, air humidity and electricity load, the failure rate of CO2 laser tubes may increase in summer. In order to reduce the failure rate of CO2 laser tubes, we have the following suggestions for users of our products:

  1. Users shall not use liquids with antifreeze function such as antifreeze fluid, electrolysis of water and glass cleaner in the coolant of CO2 laser tubes.
  2. Users shall clean the chiller and water circulation system of the laser machines regularly to ensure the water protection switches and the pipes work properly. The water flow shall meet the specific requirements for the CO2 laser tubes.
  3. In order to avoid the damages such as tube deformation, inner tube fracture and lens breakage caused by significant temperature difference, the water temperature of chiller shall be controlled below 35°C, and the difference between chiller temperature and room temperature shall not exceed 5°C (+5°C in winter, -5°C in summer).
  4. Users shall check the high- and low-voltage cables of CO2 laser tubes to ensure the connection and protection are reliable. Users shall replace the cables immediately if the cables are damaged or fatigued.
  5. Laser tubes of model 1600S7 and models with higher power shall use 50kV high-voltage cables., There shall not be excess high-voltage cables or excess junctions. Users shall cut off the excess high-voltage cables, and keep the cable junctions away from the metals and water pipes to avoid sparking at the high-voltage ends.
  6. If sparking occurs at the high-voltage ends or high-voltage cable junctions, users shall reconnect them. If the connections are polluted by oil fume, the cable junctions shall be cleaned before reconnection.
  7. The high-voltage ends and high-voltage cable junctions shall be kept clean, as they can easily break down due to the pollution of oil and dust. Users can clean the high-voltage ends and high-voltage cable junctions by using air pump and alcohol, or use insulating materials to protect the high-voltage ends from pollution.
  8. When the power supply of laser equipment is unstable or lower than 210V, users can install a voltage stabilizer or replace the original power supply to a stabilized power supply with the same model to avoid the abnormal output power of the CO2 laser tubes.
  9. Either the high-pressure end or the low-pressure end can be set as the water inlet, and the operation of the CO2 laser tubes will not be affected. The water outlet of shall point vertically upward, and the water inlet shall point downward. There shall be no obvious air bubbles in the water-cooling tubes.
  10. In order to avoid the damage of laser tubes caused by condensation or excessive low temperature, the water pipes at both inlets and outlets shall be kept away from the laser tubes, especially the laser output side (generally, the temperature at the laser output side is within 40-60°C).
  11. In order to avoid the pollution of lenses to affect laser beam and output power, users shall regularly clean the lenses by a cotton swab with absolute ethanol.
